Finding Stratford Accommodation - Inns

You can view our online Stratford Bed and Breakfast accommodation listings or purchase the Canadian Bed and Breakfast Guide, a printed directory of bed and breakfast accommodations across Canada, including Canadian inns. It was established in 1982 by Gerda Pantel and is now produced by Marybeth and Jay Moyer, Enjoying Niagara Inc. It is an ideal trip planner for travel in Canada. The Guide started as, and remains, the only national printed guide to Bed and Breakfasts in Canada. Bed and Breakfast lodgings in the book are listed with picture and extensive descriptions which includes information on: rooms, breakfasts, amenities, things to do, price, means of payment, how to locate them, etc.

Selecting your Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

In choosing bed and breakfast accommodation it is recommended that you look at the descriptive details of the bed and breakfasts in the area in which you will be staying. There will in most cases be a choice of options that will cover the needs and value preferences of prospective bed and breakfast guests. It is best to book ahead and while this can frequently be done by e-mail, calling by phone is not a bad option. It gives you a chance to speak to the host, ask some questions that may not have been answered for you in the listing, and to get a feel for the reception you can expect.

Stratford - Theatre

In 1952 there were three people that had a visioned: to establish a festival of Shakespearean theatre in the small southwestern Ontario city of Stratford. These people were, Stratford-born journalist Tom Patterson, respected stage director Tyrone Guthrie and renowned designer Tanya Moisewitsch. A year later their dream come true. It was on the night of July 13, 1953, when actor Alec Guinness stepped onto the Moisewitsch's revolutionary thrust stage, under a specially constructed tent, to speak the opening words of Richard III. Soon an extraordinary adventure in Canadian cultural life had begun.

The original Stratford Festival was just a tent that was constructed in 1953. It was Sir Tyrone Guthrie that suggested putting the stage in a huge circus tent. It was terra cotta red and aqua canvas with 60 ft. poles and 250 stakes. The theatre goers said in the first three years that they could hear the rain on the canvas and train whistles from nearby tracks. Then, in 1956, they replaced it with a permanent building.

As the years passed, the Stratford Festival become a success. It started with internationally acclaimed performers such as Brian Bedford, Douglas Campbell, Hume Cronyn, Colm Feore, Megan Follows, Lorne Greene, Julie Harris, Martha Henry, William Hutt, James Mason, John Neville, Nicholas Pennell, Christopher Plummer, Douglas Rain, Kate Reid, Jason Robards, Paul Scofield, William Shatner, Maggie Smith, Jessica Tandy, Peter Ustinov and Al Waxman have graced the stages at the Stratford Festival.

Now the Stratford Festival's main theatre building that overlooks the Avon River is a even bigger success. The three Stratford theatres attract more then half a million visitors each year to see the world-class production.
